AREVA India at the 6th National Conference on Nuclear Energy organised by ASSOCHAM

AREVA India took part in the 6th National Conference on Nuclear Energy organised by The Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (ASSOCHAM) on 15th May 2015 in New Delhi. The agenda was "Nuclear Energy: a 'Clean' Energy option".
Erwan Hinault, CMD, AREVA India delivered a speech on “AREVA’s perspective on Nuclear Power in India”, in the presence of Honorable Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, and Atomic Energy Commission Chairman and Department of Atomic Energy Secretary Dr. Sinha. The speech focused on the role and relevance of nuclear energy in the country, and AREVA's cooperation with India to develop the Jaitapur nuclear plant project.
Amid others who addressed the ASSOCHAM conference included: Mr Francois Richier, Ambassador of France to India; Mr Nadir Patel, Canadian High Commissioner in India; Mr Pawan Kumar Agrawal, president, corporate finance, Yes Bank and Mr Rajkumar Dhoot, MP and immediate past-president, ASSOCHAM.
In his address at the ASSOCHAM conference, Dr R.K. Sinha, chairman of Atomic Energy Commission and secretary, Department of Atomic Energy said that it is fundamental to address myths like – nuclear power is too dangerous as any accident can kill thousands of people and nuclear radiation causes cancer.
“We need to convince the population at large before we are able to go any further,” said Dr Sinha.
Dr Jitendra Singh, union Minister of state, said that the Government is gathering all resources to make the 9,900-MW Jaitapur nuclear power plant in Maharashtra as one of the most glorious atomic energy establishments.
